Mill Bay Sales & Marketing Inc. was incorporated in the Province of British Columbia in January of 1989. At that time the nature of the business was Office Wholesaling, specializing in industrial components and millwork. In early 1990 we were approached by a U.S. based wood drapery accessory manufacturer who requested supply of their raw material requirements. In the subsequent years, Mill Bay became increasingly involved in manufacturing completed components while our U.S. customer was performing the function of distributor. During that time Mill Bay became well acquainted with the wood drapery products their customer was taking to market. In the late 1990’s this U.S customer was sold to an out-of-state firm and moved to another location. In reaction to the lost business, Mill Bay took their knowledge of the manufacturing process and moved into the distribution business. We slowly added a select group of high quality customers, while remaining mindful of established distribution networks and existing relationships.
Recently, our company has moved aggressively into the imported Asian wood component business due in large part to requests from their existing market base. The imported items are currently stored in Dallas, Texas for convenient and cost effective central distribution. The combination of high quality components of domestic manufacture and the price advantage of the Asian imports creates a well balanced package for the discriminating buyer.
The unfinished drapery poles remain with our Canadian supplier as they are able to supply high quality softwood poles in solid one piece and two-piece laminated construction, in lengths up to 16’. With the exception of the twist style, the poles are manufactured exclusively of Western Upland Hemlock. Hemlock, as a species, is greatly sought after in Asia and Europe for high-end stair and window systems due to it’s ability to accept the stains and finishes that create the illusion of expensive woods.
In conjunction with the window fashion business, we continue to service the industrial stair part and millwork business. Mill Bay still purchases raw material and has it custom manufactured for these industries. We believe that if you are in the wood business, you should remain connected to raw material supply and always be prepared with an alternative supply. The principals of Mill Bay have been in the Millwork business for 26 years and intend to grow with the industry in the future. |
